Presence Film
Steven Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this clever paranormal narrative captured wholly through the eyes of the spirit. After a clan including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their new suburban house, the lens – as the unseen entity – follows them around. The teen shows signs of aware of the ghostly being, and it seems defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema

This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest remains effective even without a continuation. Located in 1978 Denver, multiple child abductions has made the youth frightened. When Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a dungeon, he anticipates the worst. However, the disconnected phone in the room repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators offering help, as the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, Film4
This Dramatic Portrait
In the battle between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for Mammon in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation about the fallen religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye begin monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of poor styling, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though Chastain manages to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, late night, Film4
